Sono state rese note oggi le nomination del Mercury Prize.
Il Mercury Prize, ora chiamato Barclaycard Mercury Prize per ragioni di sponsor, è un premio annuale consegnato al miglior album del Regno Unito e dell’Irlanda. Le nomination vengono scelte da un commissione scelta di musicisti, dirigenti, giornalisti e altre figure dell’industria musicale. In genere le nomination vengono presentate a luglio, mentre il premio viene consegnato a settembre. Spesso le band che vengono nominate al Mercury prize hanno un grande incremento di vendite dei loro album (soprattutto i nominati meno famosi).
Questa mattina sono stati annunciati gli album in nomination dall’annunciatore Lauren Laverne durante una cerimonia tenuta all’Hospital Club di Londra.

L’album che otterrà il premio riceverà 20.000£ (22.800 € circa). I vincitori saranno annunciati il 6 settembre durante una cerimonia presentata da Jools Holland.
